Something that has always made me angry is the way anime is treated when it's licensed for America. usually they change the shows to fit their needs such as taking out any reference to drugs(such as master roshi's beer changed to foamy water
and changing sanji's cigarette to a sucker from dragon ball and one piece)this i can kinda understand but really what haven't kids seen before in movies or other shows their parents watch? this one is more to just keep the network itself from being sued that and so people won't say that they support whatever the drug might be because of course if kids see it on a show THEY watch then that must have caused it.
their is so much more to rant about but i'm getting kinda tired so i'll leave them for the next time i feel like a good rant.

Unless you have visited countries overseas (I've done so myself on a few occasions, with Japan and Taiwan being on the top of the list) you just don't realize *how* uptight and anally retentive America is. There are more examples of ridiculous edits being done for the American market than I can remember.

I was re-watching Tenchi Muyo GXP the other day when I was reminded of this as a main character (Seriyo Tennan) ended up buying "candy" instead of cigarettes out of a vending machine in one scene.

It's sort of ironic that in a country known as the most perverted country in the world (hey, you can pull panties and worse out of crane games in Akihabara!!) they have less crime and lower rates of adolescent smoking and drinking than we do (despite the fact anyone over 2ft tall can get beer and cigarettes out of vending machines there). I can remember as a kid buying smokes for my mother, and it was no big deal. Now? My mother would probably be investigated by DSS just for asking. I would probably be sentenced to life in Jerry Falwell's closet myself, just for some of the anime I've let (and even encouraged) my children to watch. sigh....

America has some ****** up priorities. I wrote an article about anal retentive idiocy like this last week on my *other* website (i.e. the one that actually makes money ) here

Though that article related to gaming mainly, it is still relevent to the discussion.
